I would really appreciate it if you would take this blog seriously and update the sleep time info. Also, you may want to consider changing the picture on the right. It's a bit embarrasing to see the 68 year old man in the walker who's about to pass you.

This morning a little tired after a night of basketball and beers.

Fortunately, breakfast included the Scahill eggs recipe (I’ve never seen such white yokes) which provided that much needed energy for a run in the park. 8:35 pace.

I've found that the Scahill eggs give me more energy, did you notice that this morning or could you not really tell b/c you were tired? Bball is excellent cross-training. Same goes for beer consumption. The guy losing to you in the race in your picture wishes he had been doing the same regimen.

From JSca on Fri, Feb 06, 2009 at 17:35:53

I too was slightly fatigued this AM, but I watched as my girlfriend had some Scahill eggs and that seemed to put some 'pep in my step'. In honor of your regiment JC, I ran exactly 13:37 this morning at 5:00, then I watched someone do a bunch of push-ups, thought of you and hit the showers.

The race was a last minute idea. My plan was 8 minute pace; however, the legs were feeling good so I went out a little faster. For the first 9 ½ miles, my pace was around 7:30. At mile 10 I had the worse stomach cramp and almost shut down my race. For the remainder of race, I was one step above walking which killed my time. I’m going to have to figure out what went wrong. Also, I realized that I have to add more hill work.

Congrats for fighting through the pain and finishing the race, Jon! I wish I could wake up one day and just decide to run a half-marathon. Have you been regularly consuming the Scahill eggs? That could explain the stomach cramps...

My first piece of advice to you would be to stop whining like a little pussy. No pain, no gain mon ami. I do, however, understand that you don't want to do any long-term damage. You should stretch the hammys quite a bit as they tend to cause pain elsewhere if not as loose as your mom. I find the best way to do this is to take her out for a romantic dinner and spend a lot of time on foreplay, she really digs that. Then all parts of the body can take any amount impact, and trust me, the shins will be fine...

7:20 pace. I took the last few days off as my wife and I went on a quasi vacation for the long weekend. The break came at the right time. My feet have been riddled with blisters that are affecting my running. I have to find something to fix the problem. Over the weekend, I purchased Marathon by Hal Higdon. The big takeaway from the book – I have to make a solid effort to change speed from day to day.

Lame... just lame. I keep coming back for a more interesting post and this is all you have for me? I'm ashamed. I expect a much greater effort next week, both on the road and on the blog.

From J Blaze on Fri, Feb 20, 2009 at 15:43:02

Sorry I was a bit harsh. I just realized that I was included in your long-term running goal too. I'm a jerkface. Thank you. Your picture is hot, Rebecca is lucky and I am, well... nevermind.

8:30 pace. This has not been the best week for running with a lot happening at work. Since the marathon is coming sooner than later, I will try to get one more long run before the end of the week.

Rebecca (wife) has decided to run her first 5k! The goal is a local in April - Blaze are you taking note!!!

Ryan, sleep has not been the best since I’m rather stressed about that case interview; however, I’m looking to get back on schedule next week…

8:50 pace. I really wanted one more long run for the week; however, did not think it was going to happen around mile 6. My energy started to really dip. I believe mental concentration was the biggest challenge since the long run was on a treadmill. Around mile 7.5, I found a reserve and finishing on a real high - that was until I started walking around after the run!

9:50 pace. Tonight, Rebecca and I went for a run. I was a little worried since I put in 17 miles the last two days. The pace was good, but my legs still felt rather heavy. As my miles are adding up, I’m thinking a message might be a good idea; however, I’m not sure how much it will really helps. Any feedback would be helpful. Next weekend I'm planning on a 5k with NYRR. The race will be my third, and I need 10 plus one volunteer for a spot in NYC marathon for 2010.

I never had a massage (regular or sport) but I heard they can do wonders if done right.

Good luck in your race next week.

There's a great asian massage place on 54th and 8th I would recommend. I guarantee you'll leave feeling a lot better and a lot happier.

8:00 pace. As I begin to review my miles for my upcoming marathon (May 3rd), I’m not sure if I’m adding enough miles. I’ve tried to stick to a standard novice marathon training program; however, work has been preventing me from a set schedule. I may have to rethink my goal time (3:15ish).

My marathon training is shutting down today. The past two weeks, the pain in my lower right shin/ankle has continued to worsen. Last night, I tried to play a little basketball and it felt like someone was hitting me with a hammer as I ran back and forth.

Hopefully I can resume running sooner than later, but until I have clearance from a doctor. I’m going to stay clear of running.

This is truly sad, Jon. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you feel better real soon and you are back in action before you thought you would be...

I hope this doesn't mean that the blog will be on hiatus.
